Summary—
The rumors of our death having been greatly exaggerated, KinoLouisville returned to the MAC after a brief hiatus following co-founder Langan Smith’s departure from the region. But the call went out for a Fathers’ Day Kabaret, and the Kino faithful came out to make some short films. We met Friday for a no frills version of the traditional directors’ meeting. No films were screened; heck we didn’t even pull out the chairs. Standing in a circle we heard Whitney recap the rules for the new and the rusty, and then an ingredient was drawn from the bucket. We adjourned quickly to begin concocting our “distraction” themed films to bring back on Sunday.
When we arrived for the screening we were joined by honored guests from far and wide. Rob, Emily, Sam, & Josh had made the trek down from Wis-Kino producing three films and an ID while here. And our old pal, Langan, had returned from Michigan to share what might have been our first Kabaret without him. Happily, that event would have to wait. There were a variety of interesting takes on the ingredient from veterans and newcomers alike, many practicing for the upcoming 48 Film Project. It was a strong showing all around despite our being perhaps a bit out of practice. After the films we heard news and announcements from Louisville Film Society about their events schedule as well as the upcoming Fright Night Film Fest and KCC. We set a tentative date for the next screening, thanked our guests for travelling to be with us, and then drifted off into the summer night.
